Aloe Vera

If you have an aloe Vera at home then just pluck out a leaf. Peel it and extract the gel from it. Apply this gel to the area of the insect bite.

Aloe Vera takes the sting out of the bite and at the same time hydrates the skin. The longer it is kept, the better and faster it works. One can also use the gel that is available in tubes at the local chemist.

Asafoetida

It is an herb which can be found in most of the households. Asafoetida has some properties that can give great relief in case of insect bite. You can either use a cream which has asafoetida or make a paste of this herb and apply it to the affected part of the skin. Keep the paste on for ten minutes and then wash the area with clean water. It will not only reduce the inflammation and pain but will also bring down the irritation as well.

Chamomile herbal tea bags can be used to get relief from insect bites. Take one chamomile tea bag, one cup boiling water and one cup ice water. Dip the tea bag into the boiling water for a couple of minutes. Squeeze the tea bag and dip it in the ice water again for a couple of minutes. Now squeeze the tea bag again to remove all the excess water and use the tea bag on the affected area. It will soothe and help remove the inflammation.

Basil is the best herb to get relief from insect stings. If you get an insect bite, all you have to do is grab some leaves and a stem of basil. Break into small pieces and crush it to extract some juice from it. Apply this juice to the affected area of the insect bite. The effect begins almost immediately and within minutes, the swelling and the pain will disappear.

Onion is a powerful and effective herb which can be found easily in most of the households. Take a slice of a freshly cut onion and put a little salt on the inside part of the onion. Place the salted part of the onion over the insect bite for a couple of minutes. The healing properties of the onion and the added energy of the salt will help reduce the swelling and the pain within a few minutes.

Garlic has effective anti oxidant properties, which quickens healing process. It is therefore very effective in curing insect bites as well. Take a freshly cut garlic or garlic paste and place it over the area of the bite.  Keep it on for 5 minutes and then wash it with clean water. The properties of the garlic will give relief from pain and itching and also take the sting out.
