Cataract is a medical condition of the eye, in which the vision starts diminishing due to deposits of pigmentation on the lenses of the eye. The lenses start becoming opaque and hinder the clarity in the vision of the person.

Cataract is an age related problem and is more frequently observed in the elderly people. However, cataract can also occur due to over dose of drugs, various skin diseases, trauma, certain medications, exposure to radiations, hereditary causes etc.



The most common way to get rid of cataract is through a very simple eye surgery, which is a day care procedure now a days and the patient is released within three to four hours post surgery.

Diminishing of clarity in seeing object is one of the first signs that a person experences when suffering from cataract. The object start becoming unclear and the person starts experencing hazziness in the objects he/she sees.

The objects start taking on a fuzzy and foggy look, and the person experiences a lot of irritation with constant blurry vision.

Another very common symptom of cataract is that the person starts seeing objects double, that is when viewing an object he or she starts seeing two of everything. This double vision is as a result of the problem with eye lenses, and the image often appears distorted to the person having cataract. This becomes very annoying in performing daily activities and may become a source of embarrassment to the person suffering from cataract.

The colour of the images seen by the person starts loosing its vibrancy and pureness of colour. To the person suffering from cataract, the colour of the objects start appearing as if tainted with a yellowish shade. The brightness of the objects also starts diminishing to the person having cataract and they are often not able to distinguish between different colours.

Experiencing difficulty in reading, is one of the other most common symptoms of cataract. The person is unable to read properly as the contrast of colour between the letters and their background keep on diminishing. The person is forced to change the prescription of his glasses often and sometimes even on a monthly basis.

Sensitive Eyes

The eyes of the person suffering from cataract becomes very sensitive to very bright light and glares. They are unable to venture out in bright sunlight as the glare from the sun hurts the eyes. This sensitivity of eyes to the bright light and glares also makes driving at night very difficult. The person while driving often feels as if the light is scattering on their lenses.

There is a marked change in pupil colour of the persons suffering from advanced stage of cataract. The black colour of the pupils starts appearing a little milky and sometimes even yellowish in colour. At this stage, the persons are unable to identify and distinguish between different colours. They start viewing objects as only black and white patches of light.
