You must always protect your feet. As far as possible; you must use closed shoes. Avoid flip flops and sandals as you risk keeping your feet open. Avoid going barefoot outside the house, even if it is your own backyard. If you are at the beach then you must take care to wash your feet thoroughly in order to get rid of the sand from your feet. You cannot risk getting a stubbed toe or a minor cut as you risk an infection that can cause you your life.
Make sure that you wear comfortable footwear that does not harm your feet in any way. When you wear shoes that do not fit your feet then you run the risk of blisters and cuts or shoe bites. When you wear shoes you must also wear cotton socks. Change your socks every day and have a separate pair for the gym. Never wear your gym socks for longer than the time you spend working out. Women can wear hose instead of socks. Take time at the shoe store to find a pair of shoes that fit you well.
When you buy a new pair of shoes then you must walk in them at home for a few minutes everyday in order to break into your shoes. This helps to prevent blisters and boils from the new shoes rubbing against your skin.
Soak your feet in warm water every night in order to relax your tired feet. This is an opportunity to cut toe nails and lookout for any chipped nails. If you suffer from cracked heals then rub your feet gently with a pumice stone. This will take care of the dead skin on your feet as well.
When you are resting you must elevate your feet by using a foot stool or a cushion. This helps to regulate the circulation of blood to your feet.
