A Healthy Diet for a Difficult Menopause

Menopause causes hot flashes, night sweats, cramps, anxiety disorders, mood swings and an array of other disorders that not only cause anxiety to the lady going through this stage but the family and friends that surround her. A healthy diet along with an exercise routine and plenty of rest will help you to reduce the pains caused as a result of the condition.

A healthy diet must include plenty of fruits and vegetable sand water. Water helps to keep your body hydrated and help to reduce the effects of the hot flashes that you go through. Your diet must also give you a healthy supply of Vitamins and anti oxidants that help to reduce the symptoms of the hot flashes and slow down the signs of aging as well.

You must pay keen attention to the number of calories you ingest daily. Increasing the number of calories you eat puts you at risk of weight gain which does not help in this condition. At this stage in your life, you need a maximum of 1700 calories daily. Anything more than this will lead to weight gain in the form of fats.

Increase your calcium intake. This can be done by increasing the amount of dairy you consume or taking calcium supplements.

Your body will be going through a huge change in the hormonal structure and hence you must avoid consuming huge amounts of sodium that can interfere with the hormonal changes. Salt also causes bloating and water retention in your body.

Your bowel movements will be irregular and hence eating foods rich in fiber will help to reduce this. Eating fruits such as melons and bananas and dry fruits like dates and raisins will help to increase your bowel movements. Warm water with a hint of lemon and honey acts as a natural enema. Drinking a glass daily in the morning works like a charm.
