Those with oily skin are constantly complaining of shiny faces and skin that looks dull. This is due to the excess secretion of oil by the sebaceous glands. In order to take care of this one needs to work on caring for your skin internally as well as externally. The issue with external treatments is that most topical treatments cause the skin to get worse and make the skin look dull or get blemished thus your best bet is to cure the skin from inside out.

One of the best remedies is to reduce the amount of saturated fats that you consume. Red meats and dairy products are loaded with these fats and they clog your pores and cause your skin to secrete more oils and make your complexion dull. The more oil your skin produces the greater your risk is with regards to scars. Instead of eating red meat one must eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, fish, chicken and nuts.

Aromatherapy is a great way to reduce the oil on your face. Lavender oil is effective in reducing the amount of oil that your skin secretes. Add the oil to your bath water or spray it on your face several times a day to make sure that the essential oil is absorbing the excess oils from your skin. Another aromatherapy method involves using a mix of juniper, rosemary and geranium on part of your face where the oily secretion is high. These oils help to reduce the secretion on your face and reduce the shine. As a result your skin feels lighter.

Hydrotherapy is also helpful in the treatment of oily skin. You must wash your face with warm water twice a day but avoid using soap. You must also steam your face twice a week to take care of the excess oils. The stem helps to open your pores and gives you a deep cleansing effect. This also helps to get rid of the blackheads that are formed as a result of the oils in your pores getting dried and oxidized. Wash your face with cold water after you steam your face and apply a face pack or use an astringent to close your pores.
