While most modern women sigh at the thought of natural child birth devoid of medication; it is the general belief that it is impossible to give birth to a child without medication in our day and age. It is a belief that one must make use of all available resources. While it is very uncommon for a modern woman to research the negative effects of this injection, the thought of it being a pain reliever at child birth is reason enough to give her consent for it to be administered on her during her labor.
Before consenting to an epidural one must stop and think of the consequences it has on your health and the baby. The injection is given directly into your spine and while it relieves you of your pan and anxiety completely; it also cause labor to be longer and increases the time for delivery. Doctors are forced to use forceps during this time as the mother is unaware of when she has a contraction and how much pressure she need to exert for the child to be pushed out.
The medication that is pumped into your system by the injection is received directly by your baby via the placenta. This reduces the immune system of the child at birth as well as increases the risk of the child being born with jaundice.
The injection is also known to cause head aches for extended period after the child is born, so there are chances that you will spend the first few days after you child is born attending to your headache rather than focusing your positive energies on your baby.
Epidurals put the other and child at risk of slow heart beat, meningitis, paralysis, loss of feeling and sensation in your arms and legs and in severe cases even seizures.
An epidural should not be an option that you choose willingly but an option that is administered only if it is extremely necessary.
