Aromatherapy for Insomniacs

Getting a good night’s sleep is vital to your physical and mental health. Loss of sleep or disturbed sleep can lead to further complications in your health. While in most cases a person suffers from insomnia due to personal reasons; there are a few cases where medication can also lead to restlessness at night. While there are several treatments to cure the disorder, medication can lead to dependence, thereby complicating the situation even further. Aromatherapy is an alternative treatment that is used to help induce sleep.

Lavender is known to reduce stress levels drastically thereby helping to induce sleep as well. Simply pour equal parts of lavender oil, chamomile oil and lemon grass in a a diffuser and light it up in your bedroom. The aromas are sure to help you to get a decent night’s sleep.

Burn lavender candles in your bathroom while you have a bath. The aroma will help to calm your sense and refresh your mind.

Draw a warm bath and add bath salts in sandalwood. The salts will help to induce sleep naturally and quickly.

A bath with sandalwood oil or ylang ylang or patchouli is also known to be extremely effective in curing insomnia.

Before you go to bed; massage your head, feet and hands and back in sweet almond oil. The aroma of sweetness of the oil will help you to rest your mind and body well at night.

If you are unable to sleep as a result of stress; then you need to burn incense sticks at home. Choose jasmine or sandalwood based aromas that help to reduce your stress levels and lower your blood pressure.

Brew jasmine in your tea if you are tired and restless. The flavor of the jasmine will help you to relax. Add a piece of ginger to your tea to have prolonged undisturbed sleep.
