Aromatherapy Remedies for Common Cold

There is no anti biotic medication that helps to cure common cold. While attempting to treat an infection the best thing you can do is wait for the infection to end. In the mean time you need to prevent it from spreading or getting worse. There are many essential oils that can be used to treat a common cold. These oils can be administered in different ways to treat the cold and prevent the spread of the infection.

Chamomile, cinnamon, bergamot, eucalyptus, ginger, juniper, peppermint and rosewood are oils that are commonly used to treat cold and infections. In addition to these oils you can also use orange, rosemary, tea tree, lavender and pine oil.

Steam or inhalation therapy is the best and quickest way to get rid of a common cold. Pour boiling water in a bowl and place your face a few inches over the bowl. Add a few drops of essential oil to the water and cover your head with a towel and breathe the fumes. The essential oils will soothe the inflamed nerves in the nasal passage and prevent the infection from getting worse.

You can also add a few drops of the essential oils to your bath water and have a relaxing bath. Soak in the water for 7 to 10 minutes so that the oils enter your nasal passage and clear the cold and eliminate the mucus from the body.

Pour a drop of lavender oil on your pulse points and your temples to get relief from constant sneezing.

If you are unable to sleep at night as a result of the infection then you must pour a few drops of eucalyptus oil on your pillow at night. As you lay your head on your pillow you will breathe in the oil. This is a good remedy to clear common cold infections.

Use a diffuser in your room with aromatherapy oils in it. This will help you to cure the common cold and infections in your chest. Use lavender, eucalyptus or tea tree oil in the diffuser to get rid of the infection.
