Asthma treatment with Ayurveda

Asthma is a chronic disease which affects a person’s airways and breathing. It is characterized by sudden attacks by strenuous breathing, chest constraint and coughing. It can be mild and at times severe too. The best way to tackle asthma is by staying away from the condition that triggers the disease. Ayurveda has played a vital role in combating asthma from ancient times.

Ayurvedic remedies for asthma

Honey: Consume a mixture of one tbsp honey with half tbsp of cinnamon powder just before sleeping or a mixture of tsp of honey with a tsp of dalchini powder just before sleeping is a very useful home remedy to check asthma attack at night.

Garlic: Boiling 8-10 cloves of garlic in a cup of milk and drinking it at night work wonders in early stages of asthma.

Figs: Wash the 3-4 figs in water. Put them in a cup of water and eat them in an empty tummy along with the figs soaked water. This helps in removing the phlegm and is a natural asthma remedy.

Ajwain: Inhaling the steam of carom ajwain boiled in water is also a good ayurvedic treatment for asthma. Also by adding a tsp of honey in the mixture and intake of that mixture two to three times a day helps in asthma cure.

Nagar and Bharangi: A mixture of 2 grams of nagar and bharangi (both powder form) with water and intake of that paste twice daily with luke warm water is a good treatment for asthma.

Shukti Bhasma: Intake of three doses of the mixture of 125 grams of Shukti Bhasma, 1gm Trikuti Churna and 2gm of Vasa Churna with honey at an interval of six hours on a daily basis is a useful ayurvedic remedy of asthma.

Grapes: Dip dry grapes in water at night and continue with keeping it in cold milk for thirty minutes and then chewing the same helps in asthma cure.

Turmeric: Taking turmeric with honey in the morning on an empty abdomen decreases the strength in the attack of asthma.

There is no permanent cure for asthma. Though incurable fully, it can be avoided if properly managed. Uncontrolled asthma can be dangerous for maternal well being and fetal growth and survival.
