Beet root is not something that suits every palate but the range of benefits on offer makes it a very potent health food that absolutely needs to be eaten regularly. It’s rich in nutrients, vitamins and minerals, making it the kind of food that’s going to make a marked difference to the functioning of your body.
The thing about beet root is that it can easily be added as an ingredient to salads and even in soups. In many cuisines, beetroot is used as a coloring agent. It’s a seasonal vegetable, which can easily be used in a variety of recipes.
It’s good for the heart
The fibrous nature of beet helps reduce the levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in your body and improve the levels of good cholesterol, known as HDL. It also contains a nutrient known as betaine that decreases the levels of homocysteine in your body, which is a substance whole levels need to be kept in check; otherwise it will prove to be harmful for the blood vessels in your body.
Prevents birth defects
Beet root is also a good idea for pregnant women because it is a great source of Vitamin B known as folate, which helps the development of the baby’s spinal column. Folate deficiency causes a medical condition in infants known as the neural tube defect.
Respiratory problem and energy
If you have any respiratory problems, a little bit of beetroot everyday will help alleviate the symptoms of breathing problems such as asthma. The natural vitamin C in the beetroot helps reduce these symptoms. Beetroot is also a very important source of energy as it has significant carbohydrates content. It’s a great energy booster and does so quickly. So any time you are feeling drained out in a particularly difficult and lengthy tennis game, why not just chew on some beet?
There is no doubt that beet is a super food that offers a range of health benefits. It’s not something that you find in everybody’s diet ritual, but should really be there. So, if it is not there yet, make it a point to eat beet root everyday or at least a few days a week.
