Benefits of Honey on Your Health, Skin and Hair

May 12, 2009

Honey has been used for years in several recipes to add to the nutritional value. However, using it in beauty regimes is now gaining pace as its curative powers are now being assessed. Several countries are popular for using this every day household item in the beauty regimes.

Use honey in your bath water to add sweet smell to the water. It will leave your skin soft and moisturized as well as will act as a natural deodorant to take care of body odor.

Honey can be used to treat acne as well. Simply mix a few drops of honey with cinnamon sticks and spread it over the affected skin. Keep it on your skin overnight and wash it off in the morning. The honey will help to soothe the redness on your face and takes care of the zits and acne. The cinnamon will calm the burning sensation and reduce the formation of puss if t here is any.

Add a cup of finely ground almonds to a cup of honey and use it as a face scrub. While the almonds will act to exfoliate your skin and eliminate dead skin the honey will soothe your skin and moisturize it from within.

To deep condition your hair; add a few spoons of honey to a handful of olive oil and massage it onto your hair. As honey is an anti oxidant it will help to make your hair soft. Keep it on for about half an hour and then wash it off with warm water. You will not need to use conditioner for a week.

For an instant energy boost have a spoon of honey. It helps to add an instant zing. You can add it to your cup of tea in the morning to add a bounce in your step. You must watch the calories though as the count is higher than that of sugar and since it is a thicker solution; it takes longer to be absorbed by the blood.
