Earaches are common for children, though adults can also get an infected ear. Most often the infection leads to pain in the ears. It becomes worse at night, possibly because the fluids cannot run out as the ears are at rest in one position.
The ear discharge is usually yellowish and once it gets drained out pain is seen to subside. Ear infections should be given appropriate treatment. Fortunately there are many home remedies that can help you in arresting earaches.
Home Remedies For Earache
The folk remedies world over hail the use of warm oils to heal aching ears. Basically these oils help in treating the infections of the ear which results in the reduced pain. You can use single oil or better still make your special oil combining the other ingredients. Use 1 tbsp almond oil as the base oil and mix in this one drop each of lavender oil, thyme oil, and tea tree oil. Warm it up slightly and put a drop or two in the infected ear.
Onion has antibiotic properties. You will have to use some oil as a medium in which to infuse the goodness of onion. It could be olive oil or mustard oil, take a tbsp of oil and heat it up, put either a bit of chopped onion.
Let it become brown, cool it down and strain. Use this oil as ear drops while it is still warm. Put 2 to 3 drops in each ear to get rid of earache. In the same way you can use garlic as well.
Warm compress gives tremendous relief from earache. You may have a moist cloth warmed up in the microwave or a sock of rice warmed, both can work equally well. You can make your own sock by taking one piece of cloth or socks, fill it up with rice and tie the top into a knot. Warm it to use as a compress. It can remain warm for 10 minutes. The heat helps in taking away pain and healing the infection.
The anti-microbial properties of garlic make it a strong contender as a remedy to fight off infections. The fresh juice of garlic may be used for this purpose.
You can put 2 to 3 drops of garlic juice each ear to combat infection. This therapy can be used thrice a day till the symptoms of earache subside. The other method to use garlic is to eat a few cloves of garlic.
Salt is to be used as a hot compress. One has to ensure that the ear remains dry. The best way to make it dry is that sock therapy be used. Salt is a natural absorbent of moisture.
Put some salt in a sock and tie the top of the sock in a knot. Warm this sock up and put it against the infected and painful ear. The heat will do the fomentation to fight the infection and salt will dry the ear to hasten the healing process.
Breast milk has antibodies meant to fight off infections of the little ones. This breast milk remedy works for the adults as well.
You can put 4 to 5 drops of breast milk in the infected ear. Repeat this thrice in a day to reduce earache and get relief from earache.
