Clove is an anti bacterial agent and would help in getting rid of problem causing bacteria. Also, it helps in reducing pain. Actually, it does not reduce pain but reduces the senses of the area. Clove oil contains eugenol which works to cause numbness in the applied area. Take a little oil on your finger and apply it over the paining tooth.
It might irritate initially, but soon would sooth the pain. Alternatively, you can use full cloves for the purpose. Take a clove and place it over the paining tooth. Now, keep on biting it slowly with the paining tooth to let it juice over the paining area. You can use this remedy whenever your tooth pains. Preferably, use it at least once a day.
If you find swelling around the paining tooth, then you can use salt water to cure the problem. Swelling often occurs due to excessive fluid that gathers under skin layer. This swelling causes pain. To get rid of the problem, the first thing you should do is reduce the swelling.
Take a glass of warm water and add one teaspoon of salt to it. Fill your mouth with the salt water and rinse for around 30 seconds. Repeat the procedure 4-5 times. The salt in water causes the fluid to seep out of the skin. Also, salt water helps in cleaning your mouth of all the problem causing micro organisms.
Using ice packs is an age old remedy to overcome pain. You might have noticed people using ice packs over bruises. This is because, the intense cold of ice causes numbness and reduces sensation. This means that the pain still persists, but you cannot feel it. It is an amazing remedy to get temporary pain relief.
Wrap 2-3 ice cubes in a clean cloth and press it lightly over the affected area. Let the ice pack stay in contact with the affected area for around 5 minutes and then release it to let the tooth relax for same time (5 minutes).
Repeat the process until entire ice in the pack melts. You can follow the remedy twice or thrice in a day, whenever you feel intense pain.
Tea contains a compound called tannin, which is an astringent. Astringent is a chemical agent which works to constrict body tissues. Thus, black tea bags help in reducing swelling. The best part with tea bags is that you have to take up the used ones!
After using the bag in tea, keep it aside for half a minute to let it loose the excessive heat. You can then place a bag over the swollen area in your mouth. Let the tea work for around 10 minutes. You’ll soon feel relieved. Use the remedy whenever the area swells and causes pain.
