Shingles is a viral infection of the nerve roots. It is a painful rash that affects either on side of the body. It is common to those with a weak immune system. Stress, medication and injury are the main causes of shingles. Once you have the allergic reaction it does not appear again. There are several remedies you can try at home to cure this rash effectively.
The first thing you need to do is to keep the areas clean and dry. Do not cover it as doing so will take longer to heal. You will see a number of blisters in the affected area. Do not scratch or burst these blisters. If the blisters are painful and they affect your sleep then you must tie the area with a sports bandage.
During the initial stage of the rash; apply ice on the area. Rub the ice cubes gently in a circular motion. Do this every hour in order to ease the burning and itching sensation on the skin.
If the pain is unbearable then you must crush a few aspirin and mix it with alcohol and apply it to the affected area. This will help to de-sensitize the area and reduce the pain. However, if the blisters are erupting then you must avoid doing this as the alcohol will cause a burning sensation.
If the skin around the affected area is itching then you must use calamine lotion. Place the bottle in the refrigerator and use the cold lotion on the area. Do not massage but gently dab with the lotion with your fingers onto the affected area. This will cause the skin to dry and form scabs. It is the best remedy to cure the rash.
Aloe Vera gel or lotion will also help to heal the rash. The cooling properties of the gel will help to reduce the itching and burning sensation and will help to heal the rash without leaving any scars.
Another simple remedy is to use Vitamin E oil on the area. Like the calamine lotion you must gently dab the area with your fingers. Apply the oil frequently to get relief from the rash.
