A thin and transparent membrane which covers the front part of our eye is called conjunctiva. An inflammation to the conjunctiva is termed as conjunctivitis. The common name to this disease is the sore eyes. It is a transmittable disease and can spreads from an infected person to a healthy person.
Conjunctivitis is caused by a viral or bacterial infection. Unhealthy living pattern, polluted environment, occupation involving continuous use of eye for a long period, occupation involving specific type of lights etc are the factors which may lead to the problem of conjunctivitis. Through direct contact the virus of this disease can transmit from infected person to the healthy person.
Inflammation of eyelids and eyeball is the basic symptom of conjunctivitis. Initially when virus attacks the eye, it becomes red, accompanied with itching. However, eye starts releasing water after some time. In some cases, when no treatment is given at initial stage, there may be pus formation also. This pus gets dried up while the patient sleeps and due to this the lashes of the eye stick together. The patient feels quite uncomfortable when he gets up the next morning.
Consumption of vitamins like B2 and A has been proved to be very effective in case of conjunctivitis. Apart from protecting from viral attack they are very helpful in quick treatment of the conjunctivitis. Hence regular consumption of the food containing vitamin A and vitamin B2 is very helpful in curing the disease. Fresh leafy vegetables, carrot, butter, pumpkin, yoghurt are found to be best sources of vitamin A while for supply of vitamin B to the body you can take almond, milk, vegetables etc.
You should take balance diet which is rich in vitamins, minerals and other important nutrients. Consumption of fresh vegetables and fruits on a regular basis is key factor to avoid eye infection. It is helpful in avoiding all types of eye disorders. However, you should not take food which requires extra effort in chewing like nuts, chapattis etc during infection. They may exaggerate the symptoms. Consumption of raw vegetable juice is very helpful in conjunctivitis. Taking about 205 ml of carrot juice mixed with spinach juice is very helpful in case of conjunctivitis. In case the symptoms are persistent, you should consult a doctor.
