What are the causes for knee injuries?
Primarily there are 2 causes for knee injuries; overuse and over load. When your knee is over used, the pain is bearable in the initial stages but tends to et worse with the passing of time. They should be treated well in order to avoid long term damage. If your knee is paining due to over load then there is a possibility that too much weight has caused the condition. This maybe your own body weight or weight that you have carried around.
Treatment for knee pains
Firstly, I would strongly recommend visiting a doctor immediately about your condition. Remember, it is your knees that help you to sit, stand, walk, and run and play hence it is one of the most important joints in your body.
Until you visit a doctor, you must make sure that you take care of your knee and support it well. Do not exert too much pressure on your leg or legs. Before you run, you must warm up and start with walking briskly. Avoid carrying heavy loads with you. If you experience pain while walking then you must avoid running and exercising for some time till the pain subsides. Do a couple of knee exercises to improve the strength in your joints and stretch your muscles. If you are experiencing even slight knee pain then avoid wearing high heel shoes and wear comfortable footwear.
Use a hot or cold compression on your knees. For a hot compression, you may choose to either use a hot water bottle or a hot brick heated over the fire and wrapped in a towel before being placed on your foot. A cold compression works best with an ice pack.
If your leg is swollen, then massage the area gently with oil or a pain relieving balm. If you experience pain during the massage, then refrain from massaging the area.
Elevate your leg for a few hours or whenever you are not standing. This helps to remove strain from your foot and your knee.
