Causes Of Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irritable bowel syndrome, also known as IBS, is an illness marked by bloating of the stomach, chronic pain in the abdomen, disrupted bowel habits and stomach discomfort. The IBS is detected more amongst women, but it also affects a large number of elderly males.
Generally the irritable bowel syndrome begins when an infective microorganism enters the system and leads to dietary disturbances. Too much stress can also be another chief cause of IBS. Let us take a look at the various causes of irritable bowel syndrome in detail.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome Causes
Medical studies have reported infections as one of the chief causes of irritable bowel syndrome. Gastrointestinal infection is the most active amongst them. Microorganisms like protozoa and blastocystis enter the system through polluted food and air.
They disrupt the working of the digestive system to cause symptoms such as diarrhea and gas. If not treated immediately, the condition of the patient deteriorates to take the form of IBS.
The level of the chemical known as neurotransmitters in the blood of some people gets disrupted due to hormonal changes. This in turn disrupts the transmission of nerve signals to the intestines and leads to irritable bowel syndrome.
Sensitivity to Food
Most often, the IBS is seen in people with a weak digestive system. Food that is rich in spice, oil or carbohydrate cannot be easily digested by all. Consumption of such foods may lead to allergies which cause a running stomach or cramps as felt in irritable bowel syndrome.
Most often, the lack of production of bile juice in the human liver leads to non digestion and causes IBS. The consumption of too much alcohol and coffee may also be sensitive to the digestive system and lead to IBS.
Mental Health Condition
Stress, more mental than physical, has been listed as one of the primary causes irritable bowel syndrome. If a person is too anxious, suffers from depression, feels panic in several situations or is subjected to physical abuse, the occurrence of IBS is greater than people who lead a relaxed life.
Brain to Gut Signal Problems
The working of the human intestines is monitored by the signals transmitted between the brain and the nerves of the intestines, called gut in medical terms.
If this transmission stops or is disturbed by agents such as microorganisms, you experience disruptions in your bowel, such as pain and constipation. If the nervous transmissions are not restored within a day, the illness takes the form of IBS.
Muscle Motor Problems
Normal movements of the colon muscle is important to maintain bowel health. The mobility of these muscles however reduces at certain times and increases at certain other times. This leads to constipation and diarrhea respectively, two of the major side effects of irritable bowel syndrome. The pain in the stomach in this condition of IBS makes eating impossible, thus ruining your health.
Sometimes the cause of IBS is in the family! Medical studies prove that the irritable bowel syndrome is most common among people whose family members have also suffered from the same disease.Causes Of Irritable Bowel Syndrome,
