Causes, Preventive Measures and Remedies for Nose Bleeds

October 29, 2009

Nose bleeds is a common condition with children. Though this condition is neither painful nor does it need you to get alarmed; the mere sight off blood can cause one to panic. Lack of calcium, sinus, and an increase in altitude, high blood pressure and drug abuse are common factors that cause this condition.

Dryness in the nostrils as a result of extreme summers or winters is also a common cause for this condition. If you suffer from chronic nose bleeds then you must visit a doctor immediately as the loss of blood can cause severe weakness. This condition could also be a cause of a more serious illness and thus needs some attending to.

Steps involved in stopping a nose bleed

When you begin to see the blood from your nose you must not panic. This will only increase the flow of blood in the nostrils. Do not lean forward as it will increase the flow of blood thereby increasing the amount of blood that is lost.

You must also not sleep as you will swallow the blood and get chocked on the blood. The best thing is to sit straight. Pinch your nose with your thumb and finger. This will stop the flow of blood continue to breathe from your mouth for 15 to 20 minutes in order to prevent the loss of blood completely.

If the nose bleeds are a result of a hot climate then you must pour some cold water on your head or keep a towel soaked in cold water on your head. This will help to cool down the body temperature and thereby decreases the loss of blood from the body.

In order to prevent nose bleeds you must maintain a healthy weight and exercise regularly. These not only help to reduce the nose bleed attacks but also ensure that you are in the best health overall.
