The average life expectancy in women was 50 years in 1900’s while today it has increased to almost 80. This means that women have to live more than half of their lives after menopause for which they need proper health care.
Women suffer from a number of common health diseases, which are discussed as under:
Breast disease: Fibrocystic breast disease (FBD) is marked by presence of cyst and the person might or might not be accompanied by pain and tenderness. It is mostly non-cancerous. Lumps can be soft or firm. FBD usually disappears during pregnancy and nursing. Besides, sometimes swollen and tender breasts can become unbearable for them. However, it must not be ignored and reported to doctor immediately.
Fibroids: Fibroids also known as myomahs are non-cancerous tumors that grow within the uterine wall. The number and size vary from person to person. Fibroids can be treated with holistic therapies if detected early. Surgery is a must in severe cases.
Menopause: It is a stage when women no longer menstruate and therefore, no longer can bear children. Symptoms vary from woman to woman. In the west, most women do not suffer any physical or emotional symptoms as they accept it as inevitable. About 70 percent of women suffer from menstrual cramps during this period. As the body faces hormonal changes, a well-balanced diet and proper health care become a necessity.
PMS: Premenstrual syndrome is the physical as well as mental changes that many women face around 10 days before their monthly period. These can include: mood swings, acne, breast tenderness and swelling, weight gain, tiredness, migraines, depression, tension, etc. Several studies have shown that vitamin B6 is very effective on PMS. Besides a good quality multi-vitamin, Vitamin E and magnesium are extremely helpful at this time.
Vaginal Infection as well as Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) and urinary tract infections are common reasons for women visiting doctors. Some symptoms of vaginitis include vaginal itching, vaginal odor, moist vaginal discharge, a burning sensation with passing urine, pain during intercourse, etc. In the treatment for vaginitis, the nutritional therapies including a low fat, sugar diet and acidophilus treatment is a must.
