It has been tradition of many families to use home remedies for ailments like cold, cough and other types of diseases for many years. Moreover, the ailments like fevers, headaches, sprains and minor lacerations can also be cured using home remedies. The methods used in home remedies are not characterized by their medicinal properties. For example, use of chicken soup to treat common flu or that of willow bark tea for curing fever has no chemical characterization. This is a natural way of curing the ailments and it requires a little knowledge of things. Apart from this home remedies involve a considerably low cost. Using home remedies you can treat our diseases by yourself and it is always a great fun to cure oneself.
Most of the things used in home remedies can be found in our kitchen itself and the way of curing disease is always very simple without fear of any side effect or overdose etc. Commonly used home remedies include use of chicken soup for curing fever, honey mixed in lime juice for head ache, use of hair oils for reducing stress and depression, drinking a glass of water kept in copper vessel overnight for treating constipation, or use of Triphala Choorna for constipation, applying mint juice on face before going to bed in the night for curing pimples, using drops of tea tree oil for ear infection etc.
However, there is a drawback of home remedies as the doses are not standardized and the way of doing things is not described anywhere in proper way. It is just an inherited practice and we know about the facts associated with home remedies only through experience. This is a major factor that home remedies, inspite of many advantages couldn’t become very popular. But, today as the people are becoming aware about the negative effects of the medicines, the fraction opting for home remedies is growing globally. Home remedies were earlier the main core of the Indian Ayurveda, but now they are becoming popular in Europe and the US.
