The incapability of females to conceive and give birth to a living baby is known as sterility. Sterility is very much distinct from frigidity, which is the failure to perform the sex-act or performing imperfect sexual intercourse.
The cause of female sterility can be physical defects, physical debility, or functional faults. Sterility due to physical debility is often a result of poor health. Thus, sterility due to physical ability is mostly as a consequence of certain acute or chronic diseases. Gonorrhea, syphilis, and inflammation of the fallopian tubes also come under sterility due to physical debility. Chronic anemia, constipation, and leucorrhoea worsen the case of sterility due to physical debility. Another cause of sterility is the loss of essential glands or organs of reproduction.
Other contributors to the female sterility are obesity or emaciation because of dietetic errors or faulty metabolism. As the causes of the female sterility are vary varied, in most cases the patient should consult a specialist. The measures given in this article should not be used before consulting with a physician.
One of the most valuable herbal remedy for the treatment of female sterility are the tender roots of banyan tree. However, banyan tree roots might not be helpful, if the cause of sterility is organic defects or congenital deformities. Banyan tree roots should be dried in the shade and should be grinded to make a fine powder. Twenty grams of banyan tree roots powder should be mixed with about hundred grams of milk. This milk should be taken at night for three consecutive nights after the menstrual cycle ends. No other food or drink should be taken for a short while after drinking banyan tree root milk. This remedy should be repeated after every period till the conception takes place.
An excellent remedy for sterility as well as miscarriage due to an ovarian or endometrium functional disorder is an infusion of the fresh tender leaves of jambul fruit. Pour 250 mL of boiling water over 20 gm of fresh jambul leaves and leave it to steep for about two hours. The infusion thus obtained must be taken with either two teaspoons of honey or 200 mL of butter milk.
