Breakfast – You may start your day with a bowl of breakfast cereals, especially fiber-rich such as porridge or untoasted museli with fresh fruits, or grain toast with honey and little margarine. Remember to have the breakfast with a low fat milk or soy milk. If you have bloating and gas have oat based breakfast such as porridge or cereal.
Lunch – Sandwiches made of wheat can be consumed with salad, tinned fish or low-fat cheese. Fresh fruit with yoghurt (low fat) can be taken as an accompaniment. Drink plenty of water or diluted fruit juices. Do not skip meals; smaller meals are better.
Dinner – have light dinner composed mainly of leafy vegetables. Having salad of a variety of vegetables is nice way to add veggies to your diet. You can also have potatoes and wheat bread.
If you find certain food is triggering the any of the symptoms of IBS, then go for an elimination diet. This means simply track down those foods and cut them from your diet for a long period of time. You can track down foods by starting with one vegetable, one meat, and one fruit a day. Then slowly add different foods to see if they cause any symptoms.
Yoghurt in IBS
Irritable bowel syndrome kills the natural bacteria present in your digestive tract which leads to a weak immune system. However, if you feel that milk is one of the causes of your IBS, it’s better to avoid yoghurt that contains milk. Moreover, lactose intolerant individuals should strictly avoid yoghurt.
Tips for IBS
Restrain from gum chewing and eating too fast; these results in swallowing air which may create gas causing great discomfort to IBS patients. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, sugar foods, fatty foods and artificial sweeteners in your diet.
