Diet Tips To Raise Healthy Teens
July 14, 2009
Healthy eating habits always are a foundation to good health. Well everyone knows that, but a pizza is always so tempting in comparison to a salad and a soda is better than a glass of milk. Is that what you get to hear from your teens and you don’t quite know how to get them to eat the right foods. Try the below mentioned tips and hopefully you have them eating healthy at least through the week.
A healthy diet for teens has to be a combination of protein and complex carbohydrates in every meal of the day, even if it is just a snack.
Encourage breakfast
It is the most important meal of the day. Eggs are a very good way to start the day.
Let your teen start the day with a boiled egg and a fruit. Eggs are a rich source of calcium and protein, combining it with a fruit like a banana or an apple helps you get the complex carbohydrates and natural sugar which is vital for energy. Plus all fruits are rich in minerals and vitamins.
We are always in a rush in the morning, especially if you are a working parent, it gets even more difficult. Look for quick options and quick solutions to make your life easy. When in a hurry, a tall glass of milk with some almonds and walnuts is a good substitute for eggs. Even a quick slice of cheese with nuts provides you with the same benefits. Skipping breakfast only leaves you feeling dull and tired. Teenagers always want to do so much with their time, if they don’t have the energy they won’t be able to keep up with school or any other extra curricular activities that are so vital for their healthy development.
Snacking
Pack in some nuts or dry fruits in their bag to snack on during the day. Stuff like sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds also make for a healthy snack. Nuts and seeds provide protein and dry fruits like raisins, prunes or apricots provide the natural sugar which acts like fuel for energy.
Main meals
When they are in school, there’s very little that you can actually control what they eat, and that’s another reason why you should ensure that they never miss breakfast. Packing a turkey sandwich with a slice of lettuce provides them with protein, which is the very important to maintain a healthy body. This accompanied with yogurt and fruit makes it a complete meal.
Healthy food does not have to be boring! This is what you need to make your teens believe in. Burgers and fries is something that everyone one loves. Try making a grilled burger in brown bread with baked potatoes. Or boil potatoes, slice it long and bake it in the oven or pan fry it, and there, you have a healthy but yummy burger and fries. Surprise them with such interesting meals for dinner.
