Disorders Due To Eating Habits

Women have always been very conscious about their figure. They are so particular to maintain an hour glass figure that they are ready to go on any dieting plans without understanding its after effects. Today’s women have become extra alert about their body structure. In current scenario, a very thin figure is considered a symbol of beauty.

This trend has been made more famous by pencil thin models and actresses shown in television and movies. Young girls are more affected by these trends. They want their figure to be centre of attraction among their friends. These tendencies in young girls and women have given rise to many eating disorders. They follow unhealthy diet and irregular life style. They keep seeking short cut ways to achieve their dream figure in short duration. There are also some genetic factors responsible for these diseases.

The types of eating disorder common in today’s women are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge-eating disorder. Anorexia nervosa is a disorder where a person is unable to maintain a normal body weight. The symptoms of anorexia are fear of weight gain, negative thinking about own body and absence of monthly periods. Bulimia nervosa is characterized by out of control habit of binge eating. The person with this disorder show uncontrolled practice of fasting, purging or excessive exercise to prevent weight gain. The other symptoms of this disease are similar to that of anorexia.

These eating disorders have serious ill effects on the health of women. These diseases can result in diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problems, muscle weakness, tiredness, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, constipation and headaches. If these disorders continue for longer time then it can result in death of the patients also. The first thing you should keep in mind is to have a positive frame of mind. You should learn to be satisfied with your body. Every person has different body types. Eating disorders are curable diseases. You don’t need to continue to live in this painful condition everyday. You can be free from these disorders and can start living a healthy and happy life.
