Recent studies lean towards the theory that exercise can induce an asthma attack. In most cases these go undiagnosed as the reason for the attack is normally taken as environmental factors rather than the physical state.

A short span of time when breathing gets difficult is known as an asthma attack. Exercise related attacks normally occur in athletes who perform or practice in winter. If you suffer from an attack due to exercise then you are likely to have the attack after 5 to 10 minutes of being in the exercise routine. The first symptom is shortness of breath. The shortness of breath decrease after about half an hour after the routine begins.

Some of the precautions that you can take to avoid an exercise related attack is to take your medication before you start the exercise routine.

-Give a break of 30 minutes between the medication and the exercise. This helps to decrease the reaction of the air in your lungs and air passage.

-Use an inhaler before you start the exercise routine.

-Warming up before the routine also helps o get your body and your air passage to deal with the increase in blood pressure and the adrenalin.

-Try and exercise indoors as far as possible to avoid pollution and pollen from increasing the risk of the attack.

-Wear a nose mask of a scarf around your face when you are exercising outdoors to reduce the possibility of an asthma attack. Always keep your medication handy when you are exercising and let one person be aware of your condition and the medication that needs to be administered in the case of an attack.

-With regards to children who suffer from asthma, always let their teachers and coaches be aware of their condition in order to avoid any unnecessary attacks. Also make them aware of the medication and the techniques to administer the drugs in case of an attack. Making them aware of the child’s conditions prevents them from pushing the child into activities that may be injurious to their health.
