If you are suffering from any major disease which causes constipation, then treatment of that disease is more important than treating constipation. Treating constipation in such cases will only provide temporary relief. In other cases, the following remedies will help. Drinking warm lemon juice with 1 tsp of honey in the morning every day will help in clearing the intestinal contents.

Lemon juice along with pepper, honey, cumin seed helps to improve digestion and thus help in relieving constipation. It is important to strictly avoid foods like banana, bread, bakery products, biscuits, wheat, meat etc which are constipation causing foods. Animal products like meat, milk, cheese is difficult to digest and hence it causes constipation. If you are a non vegetarian, instead of meat, consume fish. The fish oils present in fish helps in motility of the intestine.

You should eat more fruits like papaya, pumpkin, grapes, orange, mango, sweet lime and vegetables like radish, spinach, cabbage, and other green leafy vegetables. These foods add fibre to your diet and help in the movement of digested contents of intestine towards the rectum.

This cures the problem of intestinal atonicity. In intestinal atonicity, the intestine becomes inactive. This can also be linked to inactivity in our daily life. If we do not remain active in our day to day life, we feel lethargic and our organs may also become inactive. So an active schedule and exercise is always recommended and it has other benefits as well.

Constipation can also occur if water content in our body reduces. So it is advised to drink 10 -15 glasses of water per day. It will help to keep the stool soft and avoid drying of stools which are difficult to pass. Hard stools can cause fissure in rectum and from there on passing stools becomes painful.  Doing yoga exercises every morning will help a lot to cure constipation.
