A lot of people complain about a dry mouth when they sleep at night. This tends to hinder ones sleep and can cause some degree of pain. If you sleep with your mouth open then there are chances that you will have a dry mouth; if this is the case then you need to make an effort to close your mouth when you sleep. Your other option is to drink water to be able to fall asleep again; this is only a temporary solution.

Smoking, drinking excessive amounts of tea and coffee and chewing tobacco can lead to a dry mouth. Certain medications can also cause this condition. You need to first analyze the reason for this condition before you can cure it. There are several treatments that you can avail of in order to cure it.

Drinking sufficient amount of water during the day can give you relief and prevent this condition from occurring in the night. Water softens the mouth and keeps it moist. If you suffer from this condition during the day as well then you must sip on water continually even during the day. Drink a tall glass of water before you go to bed. Milk will also help to prevent this condition at night. Drink a glass of warm milk with honey in order to prevent this condition.

Chewing on sugar free candy and gum is also an effective way to clearing ones mouth and keeping the production of saliva on. There are several toothpastes that will give you relief. You could also speak with your doctor or dentist about this condition in order to get relief.

Vitamin E oil is also an effective remedy. Rub the oil on your tongue, palette and teeth at night in order to keep the mouth moist. This way even if the saliva production stops your mouth is still moist.

If this condition lasts for more than a month you must see a doctor as it may be a sign of diabetes. Changing your food habits may also help you. Do not eat foods that are too spicy or salty. Avoid caffeine based beverages that cause dehydration; it may also be the cause of the dryness in the mouth. You must also avoid acidic foods like tomatoes, pineapples, apples and oranges.
