Eyes are organs that sense light and send electrical urge along the optic nerve to the visual and other regions of the brain. In today’s life eye-stress is as much a worry as any other disease of the body. There are many ways by which the stress of the eyes can be removed so that one can maintain proper eyesight:Exercise: Exercise is a very common and popular way of reducing the stress and strain of the eyes while an effective way to maintain a proper eye-sight. In palming exercise, one has to rub the hand for 15-20 seconds until they feel warm and then place the hands cupped on the eyes in such a way that the palms don’t touch the eyes. The more one gets relaxed, the darker one will see.
Another exercise to improve the flexibility of the eyes is that the thumb should be held six inches from the nose and an object has to be placed around ten feet away. Firstly, one has to focus on the thumb, take a deep breath, and exhale slowly. Then the eyes have to be focused on the object, inhale a deep breath and exhale slowly. This process has to be repeated back and forth at least 10-15 times.
Protective eyewear: The modern way of protecting the eyes is by wearing sunglass. Constant exposure to the ultra-violet rays of the sun can lead to the damage of the eyes. The more one is exposed to the direct rays of the sun, the more there is the chance of pigmentation taking place in the eyes leading to discoloration or sunshine cataracts. Polarized sunglasses are best in defending the eyes from the light shining on the horizontal surfaces like a mass of water.
Eye-disease prevention: The first and foremost cause of blindness is the eye diseases. The progress of these diseases like glaucoma and diabetes can be slowed progressively with proper diagnosis and management on a timely basis. Though there are no cures to some eye ailments, but regular visit to the doctor can help in becoming aware of the disease early and becomes easier to treat.
Visiting eye doctor: Last but not the least, eyes should never be neglected and proper schedule needs to be maintained so that the visit to the eye doctor is regular. After one crosses the age of 40 years, various problems like blurred vision, light flashes, eye pain, itching, paining, irritation and swelling around the eyes, etc. can crop up every now and then. Hence doctors need to be visited to have a regular check of the eyes and its problems.
