It is a given fact that you need to take care of yourself when you are pregnant; this multiplies when you are pregnant with more than 1 child. The care that you need to take is another ball game all together. Don’t be alarmed if you are eating more than you can imagine; it’s natural. Remember that you are eating for yourself and for the little ones that are inside you.

When it comes to exercise you need to get as much physical activity as your body allows you. This can be taken care of by walking for a few minutes daily. Avoid carrying weights though. In the first trimester you may try aerobics but avoid breaking into a sweat too often; this can be dangerous as they put stress on your body and it may hamper the growth of the child. It also increases the body’s temperature and thus is harmful. After your first trimester these exercises are out of the question.

With regards to your diet you first need to talk to a dietician. This would be the best person to tell you about the effects of food on your body. In general you need to eat foods that are fiber rich. This includes apples, melons and vegetables like cabbage and cauliflower. You must also eat plenty of protein; you can get this from fish, eggs and milk. The latter will also load you up on calcium which is very important for the bones; something that you need to take care of. Avoid foods that are too spicy or those that are full of fats. Fried foods are a no- no when you are pregnant; no matter how may babies you are carrying.

Though you may be able to exert during the first 4 to 5 months when you are pregnant you need to restrict your activity as you get older. This means that you will need help to get the outdoor chores taken care of. If you continue to work during the term of your pregnancy you will need to take a few breaks during the day. Ensure that you rest on your days off and do not strain your body on days that you feel exhausted as this may have adverse effects on the babies. It can also lead to a miscarriage. Put your feet up as often as you can and relax; avoid stress and soak your feet in hot water daily. This reduces the strain on the muscles. You must also get your partner to massage your feet and back gently every night.
