Citrus fruits like strawberries, blueberries, oranges, grapes and currants help to reduce cholesterol levels drastically. The anti oxidants in cranberries help to keep the cholesterol count under control. Foods like fish that are rich in oils are power foods that help to keep the heart healthy.

Nuts are rich in unsaturated fats and protein; these help to control ones cholesterol levels drastically. Pecans and walnuts are high in omega 3 fats and mono unsaturated fats. Dried beans, legumes, soy nuts increase the oxygen in the body and this helps to control ones cholesterol levels drastically.

When you are attempting to lower your cholesterol levels you need to control your intake of oil. Eating foods that are fried in oil or those that are prepared using high amounts of oil is not recommended. Swapping olive oil with your regular oil is a good way to reduce your oil consumption.

Since olive oil has a low heating point you will need to use lesser oil when preparing your food. Avoid eating foods that are high in fats. Avoid eating red meats as they are high in fats. Eating lean meats will help you to get the vitamins and minerals that your body requires while reducing your intake of fats.
