Health and Nutritional Benefits of Watermelons

Watermelon is the most popular summer fruit. It is known for its fiber and vitamins. The fruit is widely consumed in summer to help one to combat the heat. The fruit is native to Egypt; however due to the abundance of vitamins and minerals the fruit is now being cultivated in almost all countries across the globe.

Watermelons are a powerhouse of vitamins A, E and C. These vitamins acts as anti oxidants and prevent the body from harmful damage done by the free radicals. In this way watermelons protect the skin as well as prevent diseases like Alzheimer’s disease, heart diseases and few types of cancers.

The presence of vitamin B in the body helps one to generate energy and gives the body an energy boost. This vitamin ensures that the heart functions properly as well as ensures that the nervous system is functioning well. They also help to increase ones immunity thereby protecting the body against viral infections and heart diseases.

Watermelons are water based fruits. They help to protect the body against dehydration; especially during the warmer months of the year. The fruit increases the water content in the body and ensures regular bowel movements as a result. Manganese present in the fruit helps to protect the bones and prevent osteoporosis.

The fruit is also used in several home remedies to protect the skin against sun damage and acne. In these remedies the fruit is used directly on the skin after being juiced or made into a pulp.

How to include watermelon in your diet

I simply bite into this delicious fruit and indulge in it. However there are plenty of other ways to enjoy this fruits. Start with blending it into smoothies or milkshakes or simply making watermelon juice. You could also add a few pieces of the fruit to your salads and salsas. The best part of this fruit is that it contains 92 percent water and hence it helps to quench ones thirst. It also is a natural source of sugar so it helps to prevent any sugar cravings.
