Health Benefits of Eggplant or Brinjal

Egg plant is a purple, glossy vegetable that belong to nightshade family. We need cooking or at least baking before eating the egg plant. You can get it all through the year but the best variety comes from August to October.

Eggplants are very nutritious. Phytonutrients like Anthocyanin, Phenolic compounds and Flavnoids are presents in the eggplants. Apart from that it is a good source of Vitamin A, B, C, Riboflavin, Niacin, Calcium, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, etc.  It is an excellent source of dietary fiber also. It is a wonder vegetable which keep us healthy in many ways.

Research shows that regular eating of eggplant may bring type-2 diabetes to normal. Eggplant supplies enzymes which help to control glucose absorption and reduce high blood pressure.

So eggplant is regarded as a natural controller of diabetes. Eggplant also lowers the cholesterol level in blood. Moreover it resists blood vessels from getting stiff and improves the flexibility of blood vessels. It helps to improve the blood flow throughout the body. Thus egg plant protects us from cardiovascular diseases or heart attack.

Eggplant is a rich source of dietary fiber. It keeps your digestive system active and helps to flush out toxins from your body through stools and keeps you healthy. Moreover dietary fiber has many cardio-protective factors as well. It also helps to keep blood sugar in check.

Iron is essential for body and for various biological processes. But excess accumulation of iron is not good for health and increase the production of free radicals in the body which ultimately increase the chance of heart disease and cancer.

So excess iron should be removed from the body. Eggplant does this work. With the help of phytonutrients those are present in the egg plant, it resist extra iron from getting accumulated.

Thus eggplant can save from cancer and heart attack. Potassium present in the eggplant helps to make a balance in the salt intake and maintain a good hydration level. Potassium also helps to regulate blood pressure level.

Eggplants are very low in cholesterol and fat and contain high amount of water in it. So obese people who are under a weight control diet, can eat eggplants regularly to reduce diet. Thus egg plants also control obesity.
