5 Herbal Remedies For Dry Mouth

Dry mouth occurs due to insufficient saliva in the mouth.  When our mouth does not produce enough saliva, it becomes dry and uncomfortable. Saliva is needed to keep the mouth moist, to digest the food that we eat and to prevent infection from bacteria and fungus that live in the mouth by keeping them at bay.

Dry mouth is caused by dehydration due to high fever, vomiting and excessive sweating. It is also caused by certain medications and diseases and by nerve damage to the neck area and the head. Smoking, chewing tobacco and breathing through the mouth too, can diminish the production of saliva.

Dry mouth can cause painful sores in the mouth, cracked lips, cracks at the corners of the mouth, a hoarse and dry throat, bad breath, a sore and raw tongue and excessive thirst. Herbal remedies are best for the treatment of dry mouth as they are safe and have no side effects.
