Herbal remedy basically involves curing of diseases by herbs, medicinal plants and spices. We can start this remedy in our kitchen itself because it is the place where possibly all medicine to treat basic ailments are available. Herbal remedy i.e., treating ailments by medicinal plants, spices and herbs has been an old and significant chapter in Ayurveda in India. Since ancient time Ayurveda has discovered a number of plants and herbs those can be used for home remedy. However, ever increasing pollution and deforestation due to growing population all around the world have decreased the number of these medicinal plants and herbs making them rare and inaccessible. The significance of the herbal remedy can be understood from the ancient history when there was no medicinal help available and people relied only on the herbal remedy for treatment of various diseases.
The medicinal properties of spices can be used for basic ailments like cough, cold etc. The filtered or unfiltered extract from leaves or fruits of herbs used as herbal remedy is termed as infusion whereas boiling hard part of the herbs like roots, bark etc., in water is called as decoction. Earlier essential oil from these medicinal plants and herbs was also being used for herbal remedies. However, it is advisable to consult a health professional before using these herbal products and remedies. Herbal remedy is commonly being used for treatment of Asthma, constipation, hemorrhoids, hair loss and dandruff.
