
What are mouth ulcers?
Mouth ulcers are open sores or boils that appear in your mouth. They are white, red or yellow in color and can either be open sore or full of puss. They do not bleed however they can cause intense pain especially when you are eating. Avoid eating spicy or salty food or drinking hot drinks when you have an ulcer. They can occur anywhere in your mouth on your tongue, palette, and inner surface of your cheek or lips or on your gums.
Causes of ulcers
Several factors contribute to ulcers in your mouth. An incorrect diet where you eat too much of fats or sodium can be a contributing factor. Constipation and stress are the other factors that may lead to ulcers. In girls the onset of puberty and with women their menstrual cycle can be reasons for ulcers. Addictions like tobacco, alcohol and nicotine are contributing factors.
Simple tips to heal the ulcers
Avoid eating spicy foods and drinking hot drinks. Rub a cube of ice on the affected area. Do not bite it as the puss will spread to different areas of your mouth and increase the intensity of the ulcers. Avoid eating fatty foods and fried foods till the ulcers are cured. Eat green leafy vegetables if your ulcers are due to constipation. The vegetables are a healthy source of fiber and help with increasing bowel movements.
Home remedies and herbal remedies
The leaves of the Indian berry must be crushed and added to water and kept over night. In the morning gargle your mouth with the water so that the juice of the leaves touch the open and sore ulcers. Do this for a week to cure the ulcers.
Mix a ripe banana with yogurt. This is an extremely nutritious dessert that helps to take care of the ulcers in your mouth.
Turmeric is a cooling agent. Apply the powder to the parts in your mouth that have the ulcers and they will clear immediately.
