Mouth ulcers could be caused by various reasons, but the most common of all is stress. Think about it, how many of us have crazy hectic schedules, with no time for proper rest or a well balanced meal. We end up drinking too much coffee and eating foods that are easily available and have absolutely no nutritional value at all.

Of course there are other reasons, like a serious illness because of which you were on heavy antibiotics or an accident which caused an injury inside the mouth. These need medical guidance and consulting your doctor is the best thing to do.

Coming back to stress related ulcers, try working on reducing the cause from your life. Cut back on some work assignments if you can for a few days. Take time off work and rest. If that is impossible to do, indulge in de-stressing activities over the weekend. Get enough sleep; avoid going out in the night, sleep early and the next day wake up without an alarm. This is the best way to ensure that you have given your body the required amount of rest.

Avoid eating unhealthy foods which are oily or spicy. Eating foods like red meats, processed foods or drinking too much coffee are too hot for the system. It heats up the body from within and results in ulcers. Eat salads and avoid red meat for a few days. If addicted to coffee, reduce the intake to 2 cups a day. Most of the time, we simply need something to sip on when we are working, try peppermint tea or other green teas which help in detoxifying.

Most importantly keep drinking water. Carry a big bottle with you and keep sipping on water. Make sure to have at least 2 liters of water everyday.

If the ulcers are painful, look for over the counter gels which help soothe the ulcers. Again, eating foods with a neutral taste, like salads, raw vegetables and fruits will help.

Most health related problems can be cured with a well balanced meal, and by relaxing and resting your body. Check with your doctor if taking vitamin supplements can help you further. If the ulcers keep coming up every few days, make sure to visit a doctor and get proper tests done to see if the cause is more than just stress. Don’t ignore it, get medical help.
