You should use olive oil to massage your joints to help relieve the pain. Warm olive oil massages help to soothe the pain and brings relief quickly. You should pay attention to the tendons leading to the joints and massage them gently to help alleviate the pain.

If you experience pain is in your hands then make sure that you massage your forearms and upper arms as well as your wrists and elbows to make sure that the pain does not return immediately. Another method used to help cope with arthritic pain is to have a massage with warm vinegar.

Painful arthritic pain can be relieved when massaged with vinegar. Many patients have reported that vinegar massages have helped keep the pain away for longer durations of time.

If you have had a lot of exercise and notice that your joints are beginning to swell up then you should use a cold compress. Swelling in the joints normally occurs when the joints are overstressed and overworked. A cold compress can help keep the swelling in check.

You can make a cold compress by putting a few ice cubes in a plastic bag and holding it on the affected area for about 10-15 minutes. Remove the compress and reapply it after 10-15 minutes. Repeat the application again if required or if the pain does not subside. You could also use a bag of frozen peas in case you don’t have ice readily available.

If you notice that your joints are already swollen then instead of using a cold compress you need to apply heat to the joint to help reduce the swelling. Use a hot water bottle and apply it on the affected area for 10-15 minutes. Do not apply a cold compress on already swollen joints as this would make the joint pain worse.
