May 26, 2009

Pressure to the ear, ear wax and sleeping on one side can cause an ache in your ear. When you suffer from a cold or sore throat you tend to blow your nose often. At this time, you exert pressure on the ear and the canal and thereby cause an ache in your ears. We all go through this from time to time and we are lucky to have home and herbal remedies that help us to combat this ache.

Remedies for an ear ache

Hot water compresses can help to ease the pain and in some cases gets rid of it as well. If you have a hair dryer that has a low setting then use it at a distance from your ear on the lowest setting. The warm air from the dryer helps to relieve the pain by blowing small puffs of air into your ears. You can also use a heating pad. In this case let the pad heat to a bearable temperature and then lay on it. It will work to soothe the aching ear.

Olive oil or coconut oil can be extremely beneficial in the cure of an ear ache. Simply heat the oil to a temperature that you will be able to bear and then gently pour a few drops into your ear. The oil will help to relive the pain and get rid of an ear wax that may have built up in the canal.

Garlic is another remedy that helps. Crush a piece of garlic and pour the oil into your ear. The oil helps to clear the waxy build up and since it is a natural antibiotic it helps to ease the discomfort as well.

Use a hot water bottle. Pour the piping hot water into a bottle and wrap a towel around it. Place the bottle on the area that hurts or sleep on it.

Sometimes you ear hurts as it has a pressure build up in it. In this case just chew a few sticks of gum till your ear pops and you will be at ease.
