The medical term for chronic backache is called lumbago and it is one of the most common of joint pains in the world. People of all races, lifestyles, cultures and ages complain of backache. It is common to both sexes; however, women face severe aches during their pregnancy due to the sudden weight gain. While some are slight pains that occur on long and tiring days others are severe and are characterized by excruciating pain.

Those who indulge in physical activities that case strain to the muscles tend to complain more frequently about back pain. The common causes are exercising without warming up first, lifting heavy weights, bad posture and disc disorders. If you suffer from chronic backache then it would be advisable to visit a doctor. He may prescribe acupressure or acupuncture. Both are medical practices with different backgrounds but are extremely effective. On the downside you may get addicted to them. They are expensive treatments that need an investment of time as well. Else you can always try a few simple home remedies.

I would never recommend getting a massage at home by a family member or friend if they are not trained professionals. During a massage pressure is exerted on different parts of your back that are connected to other organs of your body. Exerting too much pressure on the wrong parts of your back can lead to serious trouble later on. If you must have a massage; get a trained professional to do it for you.

-Applying heat to your body gives you instant relief. You can do this with an infra red light that you can purchase from the mall or the drug store. You do not need a prescription to buy one. Using a hot water bottle is equally effective.

-Juice a lemon and add a few granules of salt to it. Drink the mixture twice a day for instant relief.

-Mix 1 tea spoon of honey in hot water and drink it every morning for instant relief.

-Lavender oil tends to relieve you of aches and pains. Pour a few drops in your bath water as well as a drop or two on your pillow before you go to sleep.
