5 Remedies For Dry Eyes

The tears in the eyes keep the eyes well lubricated. The eyes produce tears slowly and constantly which keep the eyes moist and relaxed. When the eyes do not produce sufficient tears or the tears produced are of a poor quality, & are unable to keep the eyes well and strong, it is known as dry eye.

The tears are composed of a mucous layer, an oily layer and a watery layer. The watery layer is the middle and makes up the tears, the oily layer is the outer layer. It keeps the tear surface smooth and prevents the evaporation of tears. The innermost layer is made up of mucous which helps in even spreading and in retaining the moisture and which allows the tears to stick to the eyes.

When we blink, a thin layer of tears suffuses the eye which helps in softening and clearing the eyes and enhancing vision. In the absence of enough tears, a person experiences pain, itching, grittiness in the eyes, blurred vision and redness. The main causes of this condition are age, certain medications and diseases and dry air.
