Home Remedies for Healthy Nails

May 19, 2009

Ever look at a person’s hand and realize that the person has not had a manicure and yet has beautiful looking hands. Remember, your hands are not just the organs that help you to get around but they are the tools that are first visible to a person and having healthy hands will say a lot about your health and hygiene.

All nails grow from within and hence it is important to grow them well from the start. Taking vitamin supplements helps to have healthy nails growing from the inside out.

Your nails are made up of calcium and hence your body must receive the essential amount of calcium it needs to help the growth of strong healthy nails.

Keep your nails well groomed, not too long, and not too short. If they chip at the sides; then avoid biting them off but cut them well to avoid nail damage.

As far as possible use a clear coat on your nails before you apply nail polish as it helps to lessen the yellowness on your nails. Avoid wearing artificial nails as the chemicals used in the glue of these nails affect the natural nail bed.

When you are performing household chores use rubber gloves to protect your hands from dirt or excess exposure to water. When you are outside and its cold you must wear gloves too, to avoid exposing your hands to extreme conditions.

Do not soak in your bath water till your skin begins to prune; this is a sign that your sign is drying up.

Get rid of nail polish with a nail polish remover and do not try and scrap it off your nails as you are damaging the layers of your nails.

Lastly, use a good hand cream before you go to bed at night as it helps to retain any lost moisture and helps to moisturize your skin from deep within.
