Many old wives tales state that swallowing a spoon full of sugar slowly helps to relieve the hiccups. I tried it and trust me it works. Gulp a few granules of sugar or a suck on a sugar cube to get relief from the hiccups. It works for sure, trust me.
Ano0ther way to get rid of the hiccups is to take a deep breath and hold it in for a few minutes. Do not inhale any more air and exhale for a few minutes. This helps if you do it a couple of times.
Eat a piece of ginger or mix ginger powder in a spoon of honey and gulp it down. You are sure to get rid of those pesky hiccups in a matter of seconds.
Drinking water also helps to stop the hiccups; the trick is how you drink it. Take large sips and gulp them quickly, then do not breathe (exhale) for a few seconds. Drink an entire glass of water in this manner. By the time you are done with the glass you will be relieved from the hiccups.
You can also try and trick the hiccups with a useful herb. Inhaling pepper powder is known to start a sneeze fest. Inhale deeply into a jar of pepper and you will start sneezing immediately. This will get rid of the hiccups. Do not inhale too much pepper or your next problem will be getting rid of the sneezing.
