Home Remedies for Menstrual Cramps

A woman gets her body put through torture once every month. The pain that she goes through during the menstrual cycle is unexplainable. While some women get away with little to no change others go through a period of exhaustion and body aches that are unbearable. Some of the symptoms are body and back pain, lack of appetite or increased appetite, exhaustion and lowered resistance to common ailments.

A woman must get extra rest during her menstrual cycle. In addition to the night sleep, she must get a few extra minutes of rest during the day. Soak your feet in warm water to get rid of any swelling or pain in your legs. Avoid wearing high heel shoes during this period and opt for comfort foot wear.

To take care of the back ache, when at work you can use a hot water bottle to relieve the back muscles and reduce the pain. Also if your job requires you to stand for long hours; take a break every hour or so to relax your feet. If you are required to sit for long hours then maintain a good posture. Use a back support to help you sit upright.

Drink warm tea with a hint of lemon grass in it to help you to distress. The aromatic flavors of the lemon grass help to relive stress and help you to relax. If you drink a cup before bed time then it will help you to sleep well at night.

Having a hot water shower helps to ease the pain in the back muscles and relive the pain as well. A bath with 1 part of sea salts and 1 part of baking soda helps to ease the back and leg cramps.

Walking or exercising in general helps to increase the blood circulation and this helps to reduce the pain in the affected areas. Walk for about 15 minutes to get the best results. Avoid exercising on these days.

Avoid eating heavy meals during these days, keep meals light and simple. Soups and salads are a good option. Eat 4 to 5 servings of fruits during this time and keep your body hydrated with plenty of water.
