Clinical studies prove that PMS is result of low calcium levels. To take care of this one must have a calcium rich diet. It is the easiest and cheapest way to get rid of PMS and get rid of the aches, pains and cramps. You can get your calcium from milk and dairy products such as butter milk, yogurt, clarified butter and cheese.
Your diet must also be a fiber rich diet. It helps to eliminate toxins and reduce the cravings for unhealthy foods by making you feel full.
During this period you must completely eliminate alcohol and nicotine from your lifestyle. They cause bloating and puffiness and in most case they cause an increased levels of irritation. Caffeine increases the pain of the menstrual cramps and hence must be avoided during these days.
If you have a problem sleeping during this time or you suffer from insomnia in general then you must have a strong blend of chamomile tea. Brew the chamomile in your cup of tea and drink it piping hot. In is an effective remedy for insomnia and anxiety in general and helps during your PMS.
-Foods high in Omega 3 fatty acids like those found in fish are generally an effective home remedy.
-I would recommend staying away from over the counter drug to ward away pain and symptoms of PMS as in most cases it causes dependence.
-Your diet must also contain higher levels of potassium. This can be found in high quantities in fruits such as melons, grapes and in bananas.
