Warts are growths on the skin caused by HPV virus. The virus infects the top layers of the skin and grows rapidly to form a wart. Most warts grow on the hands but they can grow anywhere on the body. Plantar warts grow on the soles of the feet and are hard to the touch.
They cause pain and make walking difficult. Flat warts grow on the face and arms. They are light in color and have flat surfaces. Filiform warts look like threads sticking out of the skin. They are skin colored and grow around the mouth, beard area and nose. Periungual warts are uneven and rough bumps which grow around the fingernails and toenails and usually affect the growth of the nail.
The HPV virus is very contagious and can spread through mere contact or by using the infected person’s personal articles. The virus enters the skin and it takes months of slow growth beneath the skin before it is manifested as a wart. Warts look ugly and are very annoying. Tiny blood vessels at the core of the wart supply blood to it and give it its dark color.
