
Most pregnant women experience swollen feet in the third trimester of their term. There are several reasons for this. Some of them are long periods of standing or walking, high sodium diet, increase of the blood volume or excess potassium in your diet.
How to prevent swelling
Although it is a regular feature in most women, one must try and avoid swelling on your feet when you are pregnant.
You must go to the toilet regularly when you are pregnant. Do not hold your urine or stools in. frequent urination helps to release the toxins from your body thereby helping to avoid swelling on your feet.
Avoid drinking caffeine drinks like coffee and sodas. These add to the caffeine in your body which leads to swollen feet. Alcoholic drinks must be avoided at all costs; this includes beer, wine and champagne. Drink plenty of water to avoid getting dehydrated.
Avoid standing or walking for long periods. If you must do so then take a break every few minutes. Wear appropriate foot wear during the day and avoid wearing high heel shoes. Flat comfortable shoes are a good option.
Eat a well balanced diet that will give your body all the recommended nutrients and minerals. Eat plenty of green leafy vegetables and fruits. Servings of each are a minimum requirement when you are pregnant.
Home remedies to cure swelling on your feet
Boil 2 cups of water with a spoon of coriander seeds. Boil the mixture till it is reduced to half. Let the water cool down before drinking it. Do this every day once a day. It helps to keep your body well hydrated, effectively eliminates toxins and helps to take care of the swelling.
Boil a few seeds of barley in the water that you drink or soak them over night. Drinking this water is beneficial to your body as it helps to reduce the swelling and acts as a diuretic.
