Lips are one of the most sensual features of the face. Sometimes, they are the most neglected part as well. We do not pay much attention to lip care which includes scrubbing and moisturizing. This often results in chapped, flaky lips which often turn dark due to frequent use of lipsticks. Well, you can always rush to the nearest shop for a good lip moisturizer or balm but there is nothing like homemade joy. Read on to find out how to make a nourishing lip moisturizer at home.
The Ingredients Of Homemade Lip Moisturizer
4 Tbsp of any oil – Jojoba or olive work best
1 Tbsp grated beeswax (If you cannot find beeswax, even Vaseline will do)
3 crushed Vitamin E tablets
7 drops of your choice of essential oil (You can choose mint, lavender, orange, rose)
1 tsp cocoa powder (optional – for mild flavor)
The Process Of Homemade Lip Moisturizer
1. Prepare the double boiler by heating water in a heavy bottomed pan and resting another bowl on the water. Now warm the oil and beeswax on very low heat. Stir gently and keep stirring till the mixture melts properly.
2. As soon as the mixture is molten and properly mixed, remove quickly and start whisking.
3. Gradually start pouring in the powdered Vitamin E, essential oil and the cocoa powder. Once mixed well, transfer this semi-liquid compound to a small container.
4. Let it cool for around 3-4 hours and you are done.
Do not touch the lip moisturizer until it’s completely set. Also, it is advisable to cover it while you let it set. This prevents settling of dust and infections.
Make sure you disinfect the container you are using for storage. Just wash the container and soak it in hot water for five minutes. Do not over-melt or over-heat the beeswax mixture. Home-made lip moisturizers tend to melt in the heat but the same can be solidified by refrigerating.
One can be creative when it comes to lip moisturizers. Substitute the cocoa with honey and you have your own honey lip moisturizer. Honey is known for its moisturizing properties and one of the main ingredients in many herbal beauty products. You can also add a hint of color to your lip moisturizer by mixing in some blush or lipstick. But, restrain from adding color as it will reduce the natural value of the lip moisturizer.
You can also have a perfect lip scrub with the help of this moisturizer. Before going to sleep take some granules of sugar and mix them with this moisturizer. Scrub your lips gently with this mixture for around two minutes. Keep it for five minutes and wash it off. Pat dry and reapply the moisturizer and go to sleep. Doing this regime for a week itself will show visible results.
Do remember, our lips demand a lot of care and attention and we seldom give that. Lips need to be moisturized round the clock. It is a misconception that we should moisturize our lips only during the winters. The summer heat or the monsoon humidity does a considerable amount of damage to our lips. Hence, do not ignore your pout. With this simple homemade lip moisturizer recipe, you can surely kiss dry lips good-bye!
