How A Woman Can Resume Her Normal Activities After Childbirth

June 30, 2009

Any woman who has had a normal childbirth should not find it difficult to resume her normal activities soon. She can slowly start with simple activities and can soon be back to her normal self. Recently even doctors are advising new mothers to start with this practice.

The first activity which a woman could start just a few days after childbirth when she feels a bit better is to start walking around the room, dressing herself, and visiting the toilet and taking a bath. Resuming her normal activities will make her feel better and fitter day after day.

A woman who has had episiotomy, which is common now-a-days, she may experience pain in the sutures. After the initial few day care of the doctor, a woman can take Sitz baths in a basin with warm water about 2 to 3 times in a day. This bath is refreshing and it also helps to soothe the sutures and helps in the healing too.  This would also help a woman to resume her normal activities after childbirth.

Most woman experience some negative mental states after childbirth; feel fear of how they are going to handle the additional responsibility of a child. Her immediate family support especially of her husband can help her relax, take rest when the child is sleeping and be fit enough to feed the child.  The woman has to be made to feel that she has a lot of help in case she needs any; the woman after childbirth for the first few days or a month should be allowed to take adequate care of herself.

Besides, a woman should take care to take good nutritious diet along with rest to feel good and fit soon. She has to be able to understand that she should be healthy and strong to be able to resume her normal daily activities and also handle the additional responsibility of handling the child. However it is not necessary to overfeed oneself  and put on puppy fat which may be difficult to lose later.

To resume her normal activities, she should do the exercises her doctor recommends like Kegel to help bring the reproductive organs back to normal and avoid further complications.  Exercise also plays a vital role when a woman is resuming her daily activities to come back to normal.

In the process to resume her normal activities after childbirth a woman should be helped in case she is depressed. This type of depression is very common and her parents, in-laws and her husband can only help her get over this anxious phase. These steps could definitely help most woman to resume their normal activities within a very short time after childbirth.
