How and What to Eat When You are Eating for Twins

It’s a miracle! You have two people that you are bringing into the world in a few weeks and you need to ensure that they get the best of care from the very beginning. If you are having twins then you must take special care to ensure that both you and your babies are safe and healthy. In order to do this you must eat healthy and nutritious food and rest well.

If you need to increase your calorie intake by 300 for one baby, you need to double that for twins. 600 calories a day will help you to give you the extra energy that you need to take you through the day.

When you are pregnant you tend to get dehydrated. If you are carrying twins then you are most likely to be dehydrated very often. You need to drink a lot of water to prevent this. Dehydration is dangerous at this time because it can lead to constipation which can have a negative impact on your body.

You need to eat every two to three hours. You will notice that your energy levels are constantly depleting and that you are constantly craving food. This happens because the twins are using up all your resources. You must not stay hungry as it will lead to acidity and heartburn and acid reflux. You must eat plenty of protein rich foods when you are pregnant. Drinking milk is a good way to keep your energy levels high during the day. This will ensure that the babies are healthy and that you are safe during your entire pregnancy.

There are certain foods that you will need to avoid; especially when you are carrying twins. Foods like cold meats and cold cuts must be avoided; this is because they are processed foods and they contain high levels of bacteria. Sea foods are something that you must avoid for the entire 9 months. This is because there is a high level of mercury in sea foods and this can harm the babies in your womb. The same goes for canned tuna. Though it is high on protein; you must avoid it. In addition to these foods one must also avoid unpasteurized cheese, mayo and sushi. For that matter avoid any raw foods as they have high levels of bacteria that have a negative impact on your health. Keep away from all sorts of processed meats too; including hot dogs and soy products.

You must avoid caffeine drinks like tea and coffee. Avoid fizzy drinks and energy drinks though you may have sports drinks as they are packed with electrodes that help to increase your energy levels.
