Being a single parent that works full time and takes care of the household chores and the children is no easy task. It requires patience to maintain ones calm, stamina to get through all the tasks of the day and energy to keep on going. It is not unlikely that you get little to no rest during the week and you spend most of the weekend taking care of the laundry and preparing for the upcoming week and thus you have no time for yourself. With all the chaos in your life you must remember that you need to have a balanced diet and lifestyle to take care of yourself and your family.
No matter how chaotic your mornings may be; never leave the house without eating breakfast. Even a bowl of cereal with some fruits and a glass of orange juice will suffice. As far as possible eat a heavy breakfast with all the complex carbohydrates and protein and fiber you can lay your hands on. They will keep your energy levels going through the day.
Talk to your doctor about multi vitamin supplements. These help to fill in the void for the vitamins that you do not receive from your diet; however they are not a substitute for food.
Eat snacks at regular intervals. Fruits like apples and bananas make a healthy nutritious snack and are better than jumping on a bag of chips or a hot dog at the street corner. Remember; the healthier you eat the more your body will benefit.
Drink plenty of water. Keeping your body hydrated helps to decrease the risk of dehydration and helps you to maintain your energy levels. Water also helps to cleanse the system by flushing out harmful toxins and keeping the body free of bacteria. It also prevents you from drinking caffeine or coke. If you are craving a sweet drink then fruit juice are great options and so are sports drinks that have electrodes in them.
Avoid eating plenty of sweets and refined sugars as they are not healthy. Swap sugar with honey.
